Frequently asked questions
Everything about driving and riding with Jalan, the community map built for Malaysian roads.
What is Jalan?
Jalan is a community-driven live map for drivers and motorbike riders in Malaysia. Drivers report jams, accidents, police checks, floods and potholes as they happen, and everyone on the road sees them within seconds.
Is Jalan free?
Yes. You can search and drive three routes without an account. Signing in is free and lets you keep driving, report hazards, contribute routes and earn points.
How do live reports work?
Tap Report, drop the pin on the spot and pick what is happening. Other drivers nearby can confirm or dismiss the report, and reports expire on their own once the road clears.
Does Jalan show tolls?
Yes. Every route choice is marked as a toll route or toll-free, with an approximate distance on toll roads. Toll fares are shared and updated by the community in the toll guide.
Is there a motorbike mode?
Yes. Switch between Car and Motorbike at the top of the home panel. Riders get their own hazard view, bike markers and community routes. Directions currently follow driving routes.
Does it talk to me while I drive?
Yes. Turn-by-turn voice guidance announces upcoming turns and warns you before manoeuvres. Arrival is only announced when you are within about one metre of the destination.
What are points for?
You earn points for reports, confirmations and contributed routes. The leaderboard shows the drivers and riders keeping Malaysian roads moving.
How do I contribute a route?
Tap Contribute, draw the route on the map and add a note. The community votes on it, and good routes surface for everyone planning the same trip.
Can I install Jalan on my phone?
Yes. Open your profile and tap Install to add Jalan to your home screen like a native app.
